I’ve been going (and growing) through a season lately where I’ve been needing to go back to my First Love. Distractions, worry, fear, and selfishness has been filling up my heart rather than God’s Spirit. And when you let those things occupy your mind and heart instead of His Spirit, confusion, fear, and pride flourish, and we fall out of the intimacy that He wants to have with us.
No, nothing can ever separate us from His love, but, when we let things of darkness (anxiety, fear, envy) take control of our thoughts and our heart, it pushes God’s presence out. And without His beautiful, joy filled presence, it’s pretty hard to pretend that everything’s okay. But how do we come back to His Presence after forgetting our First Love, and forgetting to trust Him instead of the lies of the Devil?
His perfect love casts out fear, so, let’s break this down: God = love. SO, God’s Spirit (the Holy Spirit) = love. He gives us His Holy Spirit when we give Him our life, so we have the Spirit of LOVE dwelling in us. And what does that mean? PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR. (1 John 4:18). So, in us, we have the fear-destroying, love-perfecting, and joy-filling Spirit (which is His Presence) of Jesus! How crazy awesome is that?
So how do we come back to our first Love? Cast all your fear, worry, anxiety, pride, etc., down at His feet and start praying for His presence again. Ask Him for a fresh pouring of His Holy Spirit, and for intimacy with Him again. Then, start seeking Him. Wake up early to be with the Father, practice His Presence by thinking and praying to Him throughout the day, be still and just ask to hear His voice and feel His Presence.
Although it’s a challenging journey, it’s a beautiful one, and His presence in your heart is the most precious thing that you could ever ask for! Continue to faithfully seek Him out – in every moment, and He will be faithful to fulfill His promise that those who draw near to Him, will be drawn into His arms.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jer. 29:13)
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. (Prov. 8:17)

Thank you so much for this, Hope! ❤️
This post really reminded me of one important point I’ve read in Kierkegaard’s Spiritual Writings. We should really cast all our fears, worries and everything that’s bothering us— and even the memory itself of casting it. This way, we can love and seek the Lord with no hindrances.
Thank you so much for this beautiful post. This is a really good reminder for today. 🌿
